JUNE 2020 - Press Release
Age UK Cornwall has secured a £1,000 donation from a local housebuilder to help support its services during the coronavirus pandemic. The charity was gifted the funds by Persimmon Homes Cornwall from company’s Community Champions scheme.
Tracey Roose, from Age UK Cornwall, said: “This is a wonderful boost to our funding. We had to quickly redeploy our services to better support the older people in our community, and our service can only be as strong as the support we gain from others, like Persimmon Homes.”
Adam Church, director in charge at Persimmon Homes Cornwall, said: “We are delighted to support our local Age UK. Their work is invaluable in helping our older generation during this difficult time.”
Persimmon Homes Cornwall launched Community Champions with a view to helping community groups, charities and good causes across Devon and Cornwall with two donations of up to £1,000 made locally every month.
However, as the nation starts to feel the effect of the Covid-19 outbreak, the housebuilder feels that, at the moment, elderly communities are in the most need of support.
The change of direction will come into effect from April, with the donations for that month going to groups that work with and support the over-70s. This will continue until further notice. The March donations will be open to all community groups, in line with previous months.
Each month the Launceston-based builder donates up to £2,000 to community groups across the region. This also happens across Persimmon’s other 31 operating areas, meaning up to £64,000 is dished out every single month – a total of £768,000 a year.
Adam added: “Groups working with under-18s are invited to apply for our Building Futures funding, which will make grants to projects across education & arts, health and sport.”
