City Quilt Project

Age UK City of London are excited to launch our City Quilt Project. Calling all knitters, crocheters, stitchers, crafters, amateur historians, copy writers... and anyone else who can spare a few hours to get involved.

Over the next few months we will be creating a giant quilt representing the many aspects of the City - from the Fire of London to the Barbican towers, from City wildlife to sheep crossing over London Bridge... what would you showcase?

Panels can feature knitting, embroidery, crochet, needle felt, fabric collage, fabric painting or anything else you can think of! They can be as simple or as accomplished as you like! Beginners very welcome!

Come along to Golden Lane Community Centre, 2.15-4pm on

- 8th June

-22nd June

when we will be running some hands-on sessions. We can also give you some materials to take away.

Writers and historians needed!

If you love City history but textile crafts are not for you, we would love you to be involved in writing up and editing short descriptions of each of the panels for the accompanying info board.

Want more inspiration? Join us for a walk around the Square Mile.

We have a short walk around the City every Tuesday morning, led by Blue Badge City Guides and expert local historians. Come and do some research, take photos, ask questions and get ideas. Our weekly short walks head off from Giddy Up coffee in Fortune Street Park, every Tuesday at 10.30am. All are welcome, walks are free, at a gentle pace and we go for a cup of coffee at the end.

Join in at home...

If you're unable to attend in person but would like to be part of the project, we can deliver some materials to you. Get in touch on the email below to discuss.
