Our Warm Homes programme is designed to help you stay warm, healthy and comfortable throughout the cold winter months.
The winter period also sees a significant increase in respiratory and cardiovascular illnesses. Despite there being several contributing factors, in many cases simple actions and energy efficiency equipment could avoid many of the deaths and illnesses associated with the cold. These measures need to be planned and undertaken ahead of winter, and this is where we can help.
Who is eligible?
The service is free and is available for older people who are finding it difficult to keep their homes warm and are therefore at risk of cold related illnesses. This could include people who are struggling to pay their bills, who are in fuel debt, who have no heating, or don’t know how to work their heating controls.
These one-to-one sessions usually take place on the phone with a home visit if required. Their purpose is to:
• increase your income by making sure you've applied for all the benefits you're entitled to
• provide support through the benefits application process.
Providing advice
In both of these one-to-one sessions we'll also:
• provide advice on keeping warm and saving energy
• offer free Age UK information guides that may be useful
• refer you to local services you may find helpful.
