Role: Help at Home Worker

Location: Macclesfield, Wilmslow and surrounding areas

Reports to:Help at Home Manager

Hours of Work: Hours are variable to suit and delivered from Monday to Friday 9am to 5.00pm no evening, weekend, or Bank Holiday work.

Rate of pay: £12.05 per hour subject to potential cost-of-living increase. 

Job Description

Benefits: Home Helps are eligible to join the staff pension scheme as well as the health insurance scheme. Travel time between appointments is paid at the normal hourly rate; but does not include the commute to your first appointment or from your last appointment. Mileage expenses are paid for use of your own car.

Primary Purpose:

Age UK Cheshire works with older people to support them in living their best life…

  • relieving loneliness, so that older people feel connected,
  • combatting poverty, so that older people have enough to live on, and
  • increasing independence, so that older people can live the lives they want to lead

The role includes a variety of domestic duties within an older person's house, which is primarily focused on cleaning, but can include other tasks such as:

  • Changing bed linen.
  • Laundry/Ironing.
  • Checking food expiry dates.
  • Preparing a light lunch.
  • Escorted food shopping.
  • Telephone/Internet food shopping.
  • Assisting with bills/appointment-making.
  • Taking to pre-arranged appointments.
  • Prescription collection.
  • Companionship activities.

The role does not include personal care duties.

Main Duties:

  • To undertake the allocated domestic tasks to agreed standards as requested by the Help at Home Manager within a specified time.
  • To establish a good relationship with clients and their carers’ and, where appropriate, professional carers’, such as health or social workers.
  • To report to the Help at Home Manager if there are any concerns for the well-being of the client.
  • To complete annual client Health and Safety update forms.
  • To record details of clients' calls on a work mobile device.
  • To record any expenses on a work mobile device by the end of each week.
  • To report any changes to your rotas and / or client call times to the Help at Home Manager
  • To report verbally to the Help at Home Manager on a regular basis.
  • To maintain confidentiality of all clients adhering to the Organisation Policy.
  • To always wear your uniform when working and always carry your ID badge with you.
  • To maintain agreed standard of work. Be mindful of Health and Safety for oneself and the customer.  To work within Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
  • To attend training sessions when required by the Organisation
  • To ensure that your vehicle is in good working order, has all the necessary legal requirements and to provide all relevant documentation to the Help at Home Manager on request
  • To provide the Help at Home Manager with details of their driving licence and give consent to Age UK Cheshire to perform a driving licence check.
  • To either hold a valid food hygiene certificate or be willing to complete a food hygiene course and refresh when necessary.
  • To adhere to the Organisation’s sickness procedure.
  • To adhere to the Organisation’s annual leave request procedure
