Role: Bright Memories Day Activities Assistant

Location:Castle Community Centre, Northwich

Reports toBright Memories Coordinator

Hours of Work: Mondays 9.30am – 3.30pm (6 hours per week)

Rate of pay: £11.67 per hour

Primary Purpose:

We are looking for an enthusiastic Bright Memories Day Activities Assistant to join our dedicated Bright Memories Team. You will work as part of a team of staff and volunteers to overseeing the group’s activities to ensure all have an enjoyable and stimulating experience. The ethos of the Day Activities Groups is to deliver the sessions in a person-centred way and co-produce activities with group members.

Main Duties:

  • To support the Bright Memories Coordinator to ensure that the group is run in a professional manner according to Age UK Cheshire policies and procedures.
  • To assist the Coordinator to prepare and plan activities which follow Maintenance Cognitive Stimulation Therapy guidelines aimed at maintaining cognitive skills, physical and mental wellbeing
  • To participate in the running of each session ensuring that all members find it an enjoyable, stimulating, person centred and empowering experience
  • To support members whilst giving them an opportunity to take part in stimulating and interesting activities of their choice
  • To ensure members are supervised around the site and to ensure that they are supported at all times
  • To supervise the serving of meals and light refreshments giving consideration to members’ special diets / food allergies. Adhering to safe food hygiene procedures and keeping appropriate records. In the absence of the team leader to place orders and cancel meals from the supplier as necessary
  • To ensure each member’s well-being, physical and mental ability is regularly monitored and anything affecting their ability to engage with the group is referred to the Co-ordinator

Essential Criteria

  • Good team player with the ability to work alongside both staff and volunteers.
  • Enthusiasm to create a positive, social day for the members
  • Good understanding of the challenges facing older people who live with Memory Loss/Dementia, their carers, and the impact of social isolation and loneliness.
  • Experience of working with people living with Dementia
  • Experience of delivering face to face activity sessions
  • Appreciation of the challenges affecting older people
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Well organised
  • Health & Safety knowledge
  • IT literacy skills
  • Experience of supporting other staff and/or volunteers to improve their skills and knowledge.
  • Awareness of acting in a way that respects equality, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Ability to treat others with courtesy, sensitivity, and respect; to consider and respond appropriately to the needs and feelings of different people in different situations.
