Befriender with Good Neighbour Scheme
Overview of Service
The Good Neighbour Scheme is for older people in the NW3 area of Camden who need extra support in and around their own homes. The scheme is aimed at people who are housebound or isolated along with age related health issues, and are usually 80’s /90’s+
We welcome volunteers who live or work in or near Camden NW3 area (Hampstead, Belsize PK, Gospel Oak) who are interested and able to commit to a weekly visit.
Tasks within the role
- Making a cup of tea and having a chat/ engaging with hobbies or interests
- Providing company to alleviate isolation
- Going for walks
- To keep an updated confidential record of all contact (visit and phone calls) and in this record each month. Any emerging problems or concerns direct to the coordinator as appropriate
Personal qualities most suited to the role
- Good communication skills, enjoy conversation.
- Consistency and reliability
- Understanding of Confidentiality
- Understanding of and empathy with the needs of older people
- Patience and Sensitivity
- Confident to deal with emergencies
- Be available to visit during the day (no later than 6pm) 1- 1.5 hours a week
