Help change the lives of older people in Camden this Christmas
Christmas is traditionally a season of joy and connection, but sadly 1.4 million older people feel more isolated at Christmas than any other time of year. For older people in Camden, this is a harsh reality: 55% of the older people we support live alone, and many have limited social contact – 93% of the older people we support through befriending live by themselves.
We want to change this for as many older people in Camden as we can, which is why we've launched our 2024 Together We're Not Alone winter fundraising campaign.
We're asking individuals and businesses to get involved and support our mission to provide information, friendship, and support to older people.
All donations will be used within the borough of Camden to help deliver Age UK Camden’s vital services to older people, such as:
- Ensuring a befriender could call and speak to an older person, so they don’t feel forgotten over the festive period.
- Supporting a home visit to an older person who is unable to access our services in person.
- Helping our Information and Advice team to advise an older person about the benefits they’re entitled to, making sure they don’t have to choose between heating and eating.
- Helping an older person access an important hospital appointment, when the cold weather can make this harder than usual, with support from our Care Navigation team
Your generosity could help people like Agnes, who comes to our coffee mornings to enjoy a warm space and social interaction:
“In the winter, it’s not just the cold that affects you; the mental strain is just as hard. When it’s cold, you might stay in bed because it’s too chilly to get up for a cup of tea. That’s when the sadness creeps in.”
