Celebrating Sustainable Fashion Week

Published on 25 September 2024 09:47 AM

As part of Sustainable Fashion Week, we were delighted to present a Style Showcase at the University Women's Club in Mayfair, featuring upcycled clothing and accessories that had been donated to our Charity Boutique.

With 65 guests in attendance and 7 people who generously gave us their time to be transformed into our models, it was a fantastic evening that highlighted the importance of shopping sustainably and showcased how fashion has no boundaries – or age limits!

All of the items in the showcase had been donated, and some key pieces were upcycled by our Retail Team and volunteers.

Lucinda Martin, a wonderful volunteer and member of the Age UK City of London Sewing Group customised a fedora that had been donated into a beaded milky way universe, worn by Dr Nadya
Pippee, who volunteers in our Charity Boutique every week, made the kimono worn by Yasmin.
Elizabeth, who lives near our boutique, had never modelled before and was keen to get involved. She is wearing a suede jacket customised by our Retail Manager Lee.

The event raised over £500 through ticket donations and sales from the pop-up shop after the event, and all of this will go directly to supporting older people in the borough of Camden. Clothes that were donated but not sold on the night are now for sale in our Charity Boutique on 53 Leather Lane. Come and visit us Monday-Friday between 10am – 3pm!

This event would not have been possible without the support of our Retail Team and volunteers. We’d like to say a huge thank you to the incredible models Yasmin, Germaine, Jasper, Dr Nadya, Elizabeth, Zoe, and Sarah for giving us their time and kindly volunteering to be our models – we hope you had a brilliant time. Thank you to Lulu Kyriacou, one of our volunteers, for photographing the event - we really appreciate having great photos to look back on.

Thank you so much to Dr Nadya for her continued support to Age UK Camden and our Charity Boutique, and for kindly organising the University Women’s Club as the venue for this event.

Our Retail Manager Lee upcycled the gold skateboard held by model Jasper, and his outfit was kindly donated by a friend of the boutique.
