Volunteers Week: Celebrating our wonderful volunteers

Published on 05 June 2024 09:23 AM

To celebrate our amazing volunteers this Volunteers' Week we wanted to let our volunteers know how much of a difference they make in the lives of our service users.

Our CEO and Deputy CEO wanted to share some words:

"Volunteers are at the heart of many of our services and are a vital in offering support across our communities. We want to thank each and every one of our volunteers who regularly ensure that older people across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough feel less isolated, more valued, included and connected into their communities. We know that all of our volunteers including our Sharing Time, Befriending and Day Centre Volunteers, do so much more than give up just their time to support older people. They invest their heart and soul into every contact they have with each and every person they connect with.  We at Age UK Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for everything that you do, and the difference that you make."

Melanie Pittock – CEO & Lynette Hurren - DCEO

We managed to speak to some service users about their experiences with their volunteers and here is what they said.

"Your Telephone Friendship service, just after two calls have already hit the jackpot. We have an instant rapport established already for our mutual love of music"

"Thank you to Age UK for the support you gave to my Mother over the past 10+ years. My Mother has recently passes away but was regularly visited by one of your Volunteers. My Mother (despite her Dementia) always looked forward to her volunteer's visits and enjoyed them immensely. The support of Age UK ha been invaluable."

"I sometimes forget that my volunteer isn't a member of my family because I feel so important to her, I think of her as the daughter I never had. She is amazing and I wouldn't want to be without her in my life."

Volunteers make a huge difference to our work, and as a local charity, we could not do what we do without them. Most of our volunteers directly support older people by offering their company and friendship to reduce isolation and loneliness.

So we want to say a massive THANK YOU!
