Day Services Re-Open

We are delighted that Orton Day Service, Peterborough, has re-opened this week meaning all of our day services are now open following lockdown suspension.
It is fabulous to see our service users again and they are so excited to meet up with their friends.
The re-opening of Cherry Trees, Cambridge was featured on ITV Anglia News. Service users spoke movingly and shared their experiences of lockdown and their joy to return to the centre.
One service user said in the interview:
“It makes you feel 10 years younger, you get left alone in the house, nobody is out, nobody talks to you, unless someone comes by the window (to wave). On your own you're talking to yourself and you feel old and ancient but you come here and you feel sprightly.”
The value of our Day Services is undeniable. The staff and volunteers work hard to ensure service users feel comfortable, interested and happy in a safe and welcoming environment. Service users tell us how much they enjoy attending! Our activities are stimulating, generate feelings of wellbeing, encourage gentle physical activity and provide opportunities to form friendships, all of which are beneficial to overall health.
The centres also offer valuable respite time to carers, who can feel confident that their loved ones are enjoying time with us.
“I love it here. I have made friends and get to have a laugh and good conversation. I have something to talk to my wife about when I get home, she tells me about her day too. I feel a lot happier with life than I did a few months back.”
“You do an amazing job at the day centre. My husband needs a lot of care and it gives me a break when he is at the day centre. He always enjoys going and it is a real lifeline for me.”
“I enjoy meeting my friends. Even though my son and grandchildren come to visit, I like being with people the same age as me. We have a laugh.”
