On Friday 27th April, it was a delight to host the launch event for the My Lincoln Road project.
This project, led by Collusion, is a community placemaking project celebrating the diversity and distinctiveness of the Millfield area in Peterborough.
Katy Hawkins, from Collusion told us:
“There are countless hidden histories belonging to Lincoln Road and to the people who have lived, worked, or passed through this area - stories of neighbourly action, of local traditions now lost, and of everyday encounters. We are interested in uncovering these stories for all to hear, collecting them and sharing across Peterborough and beyond!”
The launch was held in the Meeting Room at our offices at The Lindens, 86 Lincoln Road. Simon Poulter (Collusion director) welcomed everyone and talked about the project with Katy Hawkins giving further details. Beverley Young (Age UK CAP manager) started the afternoon’s ‘story telling’ by sharing the fascinating history behind The Lindens building itself and the stories of the ‘ghosts’ that purportedly share the building. A summary of the history of The Lindens can be read HERE.
People then shared their interesting stories of the Lincoln Road, Millfield, each offering a unique perspective.
Everyone had the opportunity to enjoy a selection of teas and coffee provided by local business along Lincoln Road, to include Indian chai, Moroccan mint and English breakfast as well as a selection of cakes traditional to different cultures such as Portuguese custard tarts, Turkish baklava and Polish Pączki, celebrating the diversity and distinctiveness of the road.
Artists from the project supported the collection of people’s stories, as cards were completed, or ‘interviews’ filmed and the opportunity to engage with innovative digital interactive video recording.
On Saturday 28th April, Collusion continued the project with opportunities to take part in ‘My Lincoln Road Trail’ with a series of one-off performances featuring 6 artists up and down the road and in participating business.

Collusion will be sharing the stories collected with Age UK Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, which will be included in an Age of Creativity exhibition to be held.
