Taking action to reduce loneliness

Jo Cox outside Houses of ParliamentDuring her time as an MP, Jo Cox was dedicated to combating loneliness in the UK. Jo formed an independent, cross-party Commission of MPs and charities to highlight the fact that we can all do something to help lonely people in our community.

Following her tragic murder, the Commission has been taken forward in Jo’s memory by Rachel Reeves MP from Labour and Seema Kennedy MP from the Conservatives in order to, in Jo’s words, ‘turbo charge the public’s awareness of loneliness.’

She was a great MP and a great supporter of local causes in her consituency of Batley and Spen. She took time to visit us on a number of occasions and to support our events. She cared about local people.

 Start a conversation

The Commission aims not simply to make us aware of the problem but to ask us all to take action to reduce loneliness. With the message Start a Conversation, the Commission wants to get us all talking - whether chatting to a neighbour, visiting an old friend, or just making time for the people we meet.
