Thanks to the support of the Mayor of Kidderminster, Cllr George Connolly, the Chairman of Wyre Forest District Council, Cllr John Byng and Cllr Kevin Gale, Age UK BRWF is celebrating the official opening of its new Walter Nash Road Charity Shop in Kidderminster!
Speaking about the opening of its new store, Chair of Age UK BRWF’s Board of Trustees, Dr Jonathan Shapiro said;
‘On behalf of everybody at Age UK Bromsgrove, Redditch & Wyre Forest, I want to thank everyone for the support that we’ve received since we announced the opening of our new shop on Walter Nash Road.
Whilst the National Age UK charity previously had a shop in Kidderminster, this is the first local Age UK shop in the town. Being local and self-funding, our shops are incredibly important, raising funds to provide much-needed local services for the over 50s living in North Worcestershire.
The shops help us to fund our Information & Advice and Befriending services, vital lifelines to so many people, but they are also important hubs for the community. We take pride in the fact that they provide people with a range of quality items (including clothing and items for the home) at affordable prices, but also that they are places where people can come to get information about local support and services and to connect with others. Some people just chat with the team, others get more involved, some even become volunteers!
Our shops also help to support the environment; the sales of items donated through our shops last week alone meant that nearly nine tonnes of items didn’t go to landfill!
I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank our CEO Amanda Allen, our Head of Retail Sue Bailey and the whole of the team for their incredible hard work in transforming 138 Walter Nash Road into our seventh shop - it really has been a team effort and those who knew the shop previously will agree that it’s quite a transformation!
With the support that Lisa and the team have already received, I have every confidence that the shop is going to be a great success, so if you haven’t already done so, please do drop in soon!’
Mayor Connolly added, ‘It is brilliant to see a new shop on the Birchen Coppice estate – it is exactly what is needed and we wish you all the very best!’
Walter Nash is Age UK BRWF's second charity shop in Wyre Forest, joining its Lickhill Road Charity Shop in Stourport.
Volunteering at our shops
Our shops rely on volunteers for sorting stock, creating interesting window displays and supporting customers. If you can spare a few hours a week and are interested in volunteering with us, please visit our volunteering page to find out how you can #GetInvolved!
