Minute Your Moves for your District

Being active is one of the most important things you can do for your health and wellbeing. As part of their aim to get us moving more whilst we are staying at home, Age UK Bromsgrove, Redditch & Wyre Forest and Age UK Worcester & Malvern Hills are launching a new community challenge, Minute Your Moves.
Throughout January and February, the local Age UKs are seeking the support of the over fifties in their communities to record their minutes of movement. From seated toe taps and heal raises whilst watching the TV, to walking and cycling, every minute counts! Each week the minutes will be collated to help us see which of our districts, Bromsgrove, Redditch, Wyre Forest, Worcester and Malvern, is moving most!
To help encourage people to get moving more, the Age UKs will be sharing information and ideas to help encourage our communities to get more active, plus each Friday there will be chance to come together, via Zoom, for Fridays with Fi, to share experiences and take part in a group online activity with the Age UK’s Activities Coordinator, Fi Petts.
Speaking about the Minute Your Moves, Age UK BRWF’s Jo Hughes said:
“We know that the pandemic is having a big impact on people’s activity levels. We recently conducted a survey of older people living in North Worcestershire, and almost 75% of those that responded said that they felt that their activity levels had declined since the start of the pandemic. Whilst we can’t restart our groups and activities at the moment, we wanted to get 2021 off to a positive start with something that everyone ‘can’ get involved with and ‘be a part of’, which is why we came up with Minute Your Moves. By introducing an element of friendly inter-district rivalry, we hope people will be encouraged to get involved and do their minutes for their district!”
