Local Age UK Shops still Open for Business

Published on 18 March 2020 01:30 PM

Whilst local Age UKs are sadly having to suspend some of their support and services, following the advice earlier this week from the Government regarding Coronavirus, Age UK Bromsgrove, Redditch & Wyre Forest, Age UK Worcester & District and Age UK Malvern & District want to confirm that all of their Retail shops are currently trading as normal, although the situation remains under close review.

Speaking on behalf of the local Age UKs, Sam Humphray, CEO of Age UK BRWF said;

“ Our shops play such a key role in helping to generate funds so that we can provide support and services for local older people – the current challenges that we are all experiencing have highlighted just how vital these services are. We are concerned that if people stop supporting their local charity shops, then it could impact our services in the longer term, which is why we are making every effort to keep our shops open.

The wellbeing of our employees, volunteers, and customers remains our priority, and we have put additional safety measures in place to help keep people safe ( for example, all of our clothing donations are already steamed, we have introduced additional cleaning and we are encouraging contactless payments wherever possible).

Our shops rely on the amazing support of volunteers, many of whom are now being encouraged to ‘socially distance’ themselves, hence it is likely that we will face staffing issues in the coming days. If any members of the community are able to offer any suggestions or support for their local Age UK shop then we would love to hear from you!”
