Relaunch of Wheelchair Loan Service

Published on 30 April 2018 09:08 PM

Age UK Bromsgrove, Redditch and Wyre Forest is pleased to announce the re-launch of its popular Wheelchair Loan Service.

The relaunch is possible due to the receipt of £500 funding from Bromsgrove District Council’s Small Grant Scheme, which has enabled the charity to purchase two new lightweight wheelchairs, in addition to having one of its existing chairs fully repaired and serviced.

The service has been further boosted by the generous donation of additional brand new wheelchair by local company, Magbility who supply a wide range of mobility aids and products from their mobility centres in Bromsgrove and Wythall.

Age UK BRWF’s Information and Advice Manager, Trudy Pavitt, commented about the relaunch of the service:

“Thanks to the support of Bromsgrove District Council and Magbility, we now have a pool of four wheelchairs available for short term hire which can be great for helping someone home from hospital, for getting out and about with family, as well as helping and encouraging independent living for older members of our community.  The new wheelchairs are robust yet lightweight and fold up easily to fit in a car, unlike many of the service’s previous chairs.  We are so glad to be in a position to relaunch the scheme as we know the difference that being mobile can make to older people and their families, and we hope to be able to grow and develop the service in the future”

On behalf of Bromsgrove District Council, Councillor Brian Cooper, whose portfolio covers Finance, said:

“I am delighted that our small grants scheme can continue to make a big difference to groups and organisations which provide a vital service to our residents.”

Paul Grant, Managing Director of Magbility, added:

“It has been our pleasure to be involved with the new re-launch of the Wheelchair Loan Service for Age UK Bromsgrove, Redditch & Wyre Forest.  We have worked closely with all of the team to provide an exceptional range of light weight manual wheelchairs that is available to hire from their Windsor Street office, with the aim of creating a new lease of independence to our local residents and wider community”
