Age UK Bristol and the Support Hub are running the One Small Step to Reconnect campaign throughout August. One Small Step is aimed at supporting and empowering people over 50 to reconnect with their community and to rebuild their confidence in going out again post-lockdown. As a part of the campaign, Age UK Bristol’s trained community Tai Chi instructors will be putting on free classes in parks all over Bristol on 27th August from 10.30am – 11am.
The Tai Chi in the park is an opportunity to try out a gentle exercise and meet like-minded people, all out in the fresh air. The sessions will all kick off at 10.30am and run until 11am. We’ll be running sessions at:
- St Andrews Park.
- Grenville Symthe Park. (Meeting right of the entrance opposite the football stadium on Ashton Rd.)
- Horfield Common Park. (Meeting by Tennis Court 2 on the Horfield Common.)
- Victoria Park. (Meeting by the toilet block.) - This session has been CANCELLED. Apologies for any inconvenience.
- Hengrove. (Meeting by Bristol South Aikido Dojo, Fortfield Road, BS14 9NX.)
- Blaise Castle Park. (Meeting by the bottom of steps to the museum.)
- The Downs. (Meeting by the café next to the water tower.)
This activity is free to attend for anyone, including complete beginners. If you feel worried or anxious about attending consider bringing a friend or family member. Our Tai Chi instructors are very friendly and we will also have Age UK Bristol staff and volunteers at the park to meet and greet, you’ll be able to identify us by our Age UK Bristol t-shirts.
So far the One Small Step campaign has shared advice on navigating life after lockdown and included stories from older people living in Bristol sharing their advice on how to reconnect – whether that be ‘virtually’ or in person. Read Pat, Margaret and David’s story on our website.
We look forward to seeing you at your local park on 27th August! Contact admin@ageukbristol.org.uk or call 0117 929 7537 if you have any questions or would like to speak to an organiser.
