FAB Project Coordinator Job Description
We are looking for someone to support and develop the services offered by our Friends Ageing Better (FAB) service. If you are friendly, a good listener and enjoy working with members of the public and as part of a close-knit team, this could be the job for you.
FAB aims to improve and maintain the wellbeing of older adults in the city by providing opportunities for them to meet others. FAB also encourages older adults to volunteer in a variety of ways too.
We need someone who can help us to develop and maintain our work, particularly by supporting our FAB Cafes, Phone Chat Groups and Discos. The successful candidate will support volunteers to host cafes and chat groups, but will need to cover if the volunteer is unavailable. You will make monthly visits to our FAB cafes and as these run from Monday to Friday, there will be a need to work your 2.5 days flexibly. Once every three months there will be a need to be present at our FAB discos which are in the evening.
Some of our activities are online or on the phone, and you will be familiar with social media. You’ll be responsible for writing a regular newsletter to send out by post and email to older people, updating them on the activities and events available in the city. We need someone with the enthusiasm and creativity to get things up and running and who can then recruit and hand over to a volunteer to run things, supporting and guiding them as necessary.
You’ll have scope to set up new opportunities for older people to get together either in person or ‘virtually’ with the aim of helping them to make friendships and to grow in confidence to build local connections. You will ensure that our services provide a welcoming environment and be able to support the people you meet by listening to their needs, developing appropriate services and connecting them to opportunities and support available.
This role is all about teamwork and good communication skills, within Age UK Bristol and with other voluntary organisations. Ideally you will already have a broad knowledge of the services offered by the voluntary sector in the city, but if not, you will be supported to learn.
If you genuinely enjoy working with people and want to enable older people to age well by improving their independence and engagement with others, we’d love to hear from you.
Due to the nature of this post, you will be required to work frequently outside of the office. However you’ll come into the office to ensure close connections with other staff. There will be some opportunity for working from home on occasion.
We work closely with other voluntary organisations who share our ambition to build an age-friendly city. We are looking for someone with the drive and commitment to help us make a difference.
You will benefit from:
- Bike to work scheme available
- Flexible working including flexitime and hybrid-working
- 25 days holiday pro rata, plus bank holidays
- 6% employer pension contribution
- Ongoing training, support and development
- Employee Assistance Programme
- An employer which values its staff
