Winter Fuel Payment Campaign

Published on 18 September 2024 03:24 PM

Age UK Bradford District has launched an important campaign to help older people save their Winter Fuel Payment.

Over 12,500 older people across Bradford, Keighley & Shipley could still keep this essential support this winter because they are known to be eligible for Pension Credit but don’t currently claim it.

The charity is asking people to help to raise awareness and talk to older people that they know, meet through work, have in their family or in their community as this could make a world of difference to the lives and experiences of thousands of older people this winter.

More information can be found in the Information Guide:  ID205478 Age UK Pension Credit_February 2024

As Chief Executive, Mark Rounding, explains: “The Government’s decision to means test the Winter Fuel Payment at such short notice and on top of rising fuel prices from October will leave many older people facing unenviable decisions this winter about how to spend their money. Do they stay warm, do they buy food or pay their housing and other essential costs and this situation might have potentially devastating impacts on their health and wellbeing”.

Age UK Bradford District is standing with older people and have launched the campaign to raise awareness of Pension Credit and how to apply for it.

The local charity does not have the resources to reach all of the older people affected by this decision and is focussing on raising awareness including through the provision of Information and support via their Information Line and specially designated Pension Credit Drop-In sessions at Community Hubs across the District: Our Services | Age UK Bradford and District

Please help the charity by using your voice to give older people across Bradford District a better winter.
