Schofield Sweeney's chosen charity of the year for 2023 is Age UK Bradford District. The Bradford office team has taken part in several events during 2023, including the Bradford Soapbox Challenge and Bradford Dragon Boat Festival.
In April, the firm attended their second Bradford Soapbox Challenge. Their team ‘Don’t Judge Us’, built and raced their tortoise and the hare-themed soapbox, raising a very impressive £1255 whilst beating last years' time with a personal best of 36.36 seconds. Despite qualifying for the top ten shootout in 4th place, they were defeated in the finals due to a collision with the barrier on the last bend.
It was also the second year that Schofield Sweeney entered their team into the Bradford Dragon Boat Festival. The team finished 7th with another personal best time of 1:12:920 at the event held at Roberts Park on Sunday 2nd July. The team of 17 rowed 200m of the river Aire (several times) against 25 other teams.
Emma Rowley, Paralegal Apprentice at Schofield Sweeney said “It has been a privilege supporting Age UK this year in their vital work supporting older people facing poverty and loneliness in our local communities. It has been a great opportunity for people to gather around an important cause and to know that their generosity is making a difference, all whilst having fun at the same time!”
In addition to the events, Schofield Sweeney staff have also donated clothing to be sold in the 6 Age UK Bradford District hubs and their next event is a Christmas jumper day.
Lynette Elphee, Fundraising Assistant at Age UK Bradford District, said, "We would like to thank the team at Schofield Sweeney for their ongoing support for us this year. It's great to see their enthusiasm and teamwork, whilst giving back so much to older people across Bradford District. Without corporate support like this we wouldn't be able to work with as many people and provide as much support as we do. All donations make a huge difference to the amount of people we can support through our work"
