Meet the Trader - Lemon Locksmith

Published on 14 January 2021 01:36 PM

Andrew Dunn of Lemon Locksmith has joined Age UK Bradford District’s Trusted Trader database, a directory of local tradespeople, contractors and companies that have been vetted by us to ensure that they are reliable and trustworthy providers.

Our Trusted Trader database includes a wide range of useful local contacts, from handy persons to plumbers to people specialising in decluttering. Here we meet Andrew, a local and trusted locksmith.

We asked him a little about his trade and services.

“I can fix any lock or jammed door and have got many people out of tricky situations.

I assure anyone that I come to help by explaining the solution and make sure I am clear about the steps needed to fix the lock. I will always provide the price for the job clearly before starting anything and never add any surprise extra costs.

I aim to be with a customer as soon as possible, often within 30 minutes, even at night. If on the rare occasion that a special part needs to be ordered in I will temporarily secure the door, never leaving it unsecure.

I am a local locksmith (not a big national company) and gain work mainly by word of mouth which helps to keep my costs low.”

Originally from Lancaster, Andrew moved to the area after his wife got a job at the University in Bradford.

Over the years Andrew has gone from being a CAD designer to going pro at the ‘sport of lock picking’.

“My professional background is actually in computer aided design. After university I worked as a CAD designer which involved understanding how things work (but on a computer). As a side hobby I was also interested in the sport of lock picking (it really is classed as a sport!). I started doing this in the evenings after work and started to get pretty good at it.

After a while a few of my friends and family got to hear of my lock picking skills and I started to get the odd call from friends who had lost their keys and needed to get inside. Eventually it just spread from there and I decided to leave the office job and become a full time locksmith.”

Finally, we asked Andrew about the best part of his job.

“The most satisfying part of my work is seeing the customers face when I get their door open without needing to damage it after they have accidentally been locked out. I find many people are fascinated by the process and it becomes like a little show in a way.”

We asked for some feedback on Andrew's work, here are some of the quotes we had back.

“I found Andrew to be polite and professional and was easy to communicate with. There were no hidden surprises or extra costs. I would use again.”

“Andrew fixed a broken mechanism in my UPVC door around 4 months ago and did it well. I had no complaints and was satisfied with the job. He also accepted payment by card and provided a proper receipt which I appreciated.”

“I used Andrew to get inside my car after I locked the keys in the boot. Andrew came within 30 minutes and was very affordable. I was very happy with the service.”
