Celebrating Volunteers Week: Joy's Story

In celebration of Volunteers Week, we are delighted to share the story of one of our volunteers, Joy.
Joy joined our team over three years ago, bringing with her a wealth of experience from a busy, people-oriented career. After retiring, she quickly found the mundane routine of housework wasn’t fulfilling enough and she missed the social interactions that work had provided.
After she spotted a poster in one of our Age UK Bradford District Hubs asking for volunteers, she decided to find out more. The process was straightforward: Joy filled out some paperwork, had an informal chat with the Hub Retail Assistant, and chose the hours and days that suited her best.
Since then, Joy has become an invaluable part of our volunteer team, bringing enthusiasm, warmth, and a friendly smile to everyone she meets.
"It's not just 'a job' it's a whole new family and group of friends, both staff and customers."
All the work we do is supported by volunteers, and we simply couldn't do what we do without them. Thank you so much to every person who volunteers for us - you all make such a difference.
