Role Description

Age UK Bolton runs a monthly Friendship Cafe at our Ageing Well Centre This event provides a valuable resource for older people in the local community. The role will involve providing general help, including setting tables, welcoming clients as they arrive, serving hot drinks, clearing up at the end, and in addition booking guest speakers, ringing clients up booking them on beforehand, booing ring and ride and creating the activities for the group. 

Specific Responsibilities

Duties will involve: 

  • Organising and booking guest speakers in advance 
  • Creating or finding craft and social activities to do each month 
  • Planning activities and speakers around key themes
  • Setting up the room and tables, putting crafts out etc 
  • Sourcing any materials we might need 
  • Chatting to clients, encouraging them to attend and return 
  • Helping people with ring and ride bookings 
  • Ringing clients in advance and booking them on each month 
  • Taking photos at the event and helping create promotional material 
  • Making cups of tea / coffee and putting out refreshments 
  • Tidying up 

What We're Looking For

  • An open-minded approach to individuals, avoiding judgement and stereotyping. 
  • A liking for and interest in working with older people 
  • Ability to work as part of a team 
  • Willingness to attend training and other events and to be able to commit to regular volunteering hours 
  • Willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS check (criminal records check) 

Time Required

One day per month on a Thursdays 12:30 – 4:30, plus 1-2 extra hours (flexible).
