Night Fever for Age UK Bolton Night Run Fundraisers!

This weekend will see Bolton taken over by the huge Ironman UK event once again. Of course, the main event of the weekend is the gruelling Ironman Extreme Triathlon, but for those who want to get involved, but don’t fancy a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride, topped off with a full 26.22 mile marathon there are still other ways to get involved in the weekend.
There is the popular “Ironkids” town centre run, and a choice of two night runs at either the 5 or 10km distance, and this is where the team of fit fundraisers representing Age UK Bolton will be doing their thing.
Strength and Balance Service Manager Niall Bradley had the idea to have a team enter the run in aid of the independent, Bolton based charity and will be heading up the team.
When asked about the event Niall, who has raised money for the charity through other running events said “It’s fantastic to have a team of staff and volunteers willing to give their time, sweat and energy to help us raise funds. It is key that Age UK Bolton continue to be able to keep doing the vital work we do in the local community. Whether that be helping Bolton’s older people claim benefits, stay fit and active, keeping social and avoiding isolation or helping those coming out of hospital avoid readmission, all of our funding helps to support us, and the night run is no exception.”
The team of 6, made up of 4 staff members and 2 volunteers will be split between the two distances on the evening, with the runs scheduled to start at 7pm on Friday night as part of a fun-filled evening. There will be musical entertainment around the course, which runs through the town centre and Queens Park, before a festival finish, including food and drink vendors at the finish line in Victoria Square!
Also among the runners taking part on behalf of Age UK Bolton are, Information and Advice Manager, Chiara Knott and, Deputy Chief Executive, Pat Kitchen who told us “I’d like to say a big thank you to our little team. As Deputy Chief Executive it is humbling to see the lengths our staff and volunteers are willing to go to in support of the work we do. Having said that I’m not quite sure what I was thinking when I agreed to take part, I’m certainly not a regular runner, but it will be well worth the weary legs!”
If you would like to support the Age UK Bolton team by sponsoring their night run efforts you can pledge your support here or by calling into the head office at The Square on Victoria Square in Bolton town centre, or at the Ageing Well Centre on Cross Street in Farnworth where sponsor forms will be available to fill in.
