Age UK Bolton are looking to get people active through Advent

As the festive period draws rapidly closer, the age-old argument has likely broken out in households up and down the country, centring on the question “are you too old for an Advent Calendar?”
And while moody teens and a fair few of those well into their 20s complain over the lack of a window to open and a tasty, chocolate treat to discover each morning on the build-up to the finale of Christmas Morning Age UK Bolton have an advent calendar designed specifically for the borough’s over 50’s.
“On your feet before a Christmas treat” is the Charity’s exercise-based, multimedia Advent Calendar aimed at getting people moving in the countdown to Christmas.
Age UK Bolton Strength & Balance Service Manager Niall Bradley expanded on the thinking behind the calendar. “Christmas is a time associated with eating and drinking, and that’s a great reason to make sure we keep moving. Especially as we get older and can lose mobility rapidly if we stop moving.”
The calendar sheet with a list and illustrated examples of each day’s exercise is available from Age UK Bolton at the Square, as well as the Aging Well Centre in Farnworth, from Age UK Bolton Strength & Balance classes or is available to download from the Age UK Bolton website. A video of each exercise will be released each morning with a member of the strength & Balance team demonstrating the day’s exercise and will be shared on the Charity’s website as well as on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
“We hope that people get involved, they’re simple exercises that will make a difference and we hope that presenting it in a fun, festive way, people will get involved and get moving“ Added Niall
