How we are funded

We rely on your support to keep providing services to Blackburn with Darwen's older people. Many of our services are funded through statutory and health contracts or charitable grants. However we also rely heavily on donations from the public along with income from our charity shop, and fundraising initiatives.

Who we are and what we do

Age UK Blackburn with Darwen was established in 1976 as a local independent registered charity and over the years we have worked with thousands of local older people providing a range of community based services. We are a member of the national Age England Association, which is made up of partners across England. Our common cause is to help make later life fulfilling and enjoyable experience and promote the wellbeing of older people.

Campaigning and influencing

As well as providing a range of community services, we seek to effect change by influencing decision-makers and educating the wider community on issues affecting older people.

Our aim is to make the policies and practice of the local authority, health services and other organisations and services sensitive to the real needs and aspirations of older people.

We also work in partnership with a range of organisations to ensure the provision of a range of high quality services and activities.

We also support campaigns on issues affecting the lives of older people locally and nationally.

Staff and volunteers

In order to ensure we provide quality and effective services we rely upon the commitment, skills and experience of our team of staff and volunteers.

We currently have 33 staff and around 80 volunteers who work across our services. We continually aim to improve our work through a wide variety of training and development and we hold an Investors in People award which ensures we maintain this aim.
