Special Conditions:

Local travel during work will be required, for which mileage allowance will be paid. 

 

Occasional evening and weekend work may be necessary, for which time off in lieu on an hour-by-hour basis is allowed.

JOB SUMMARY

 

The scope of the Handyperson scheme is to provide small household repairs and home improvement services to older people living in Berkshire.  The scheme places great emphasis on safety and security, helping people to remain living independently and sagely within their homes.  The service operates Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays.

 

At the time of carrying out the job you will be expected, with the householder’s permission of course to be on the lookout for other small jobs that need doing, particularly those that might put the person’s safety at risk.

 

The expectation is that you will use your own vehicle to deliver the service, with a mileage allowance being paid

 

 

 

 

Main Duties:

  1. To carry out general household repairs including repairing leaking taps, fitting grab rails, Key safes, renewing locks, curtain polies and blinds etc.
  2. To take bookings directly from the Handyperson Administrator using our IT system
  3. To liaise as necessary with health and social care professionals e.g. Occupational Therapists, and with other colleagues in Age UK Berkshire
  4. To purchase materials in order to complete the tasks and account for expenditure and to collect fees for billable jobs.
  5. To complete a monthly cashing-in and reconciliation with the Handyperson Administrator.
  6. To maintain the tools and equipment in good working order and to report loss or damage immediately
  7. To be alert, identifying where there are concerns about an older or disabled person, and signposting on where appropriate
  8. To capture monitoring information e.g. Outcomes
  9. To undertake relevant training to maintain skills and knowledge necessary for this post.
  10. To comply with all Age UK Berkshire policies and procedures and with all relevant legislation, particularly in respect of Health & Safety.
