Make Christmas a Time for Togetherness

For many of us, Christmas is a season of warmth, joy, and connection with loved ones. But for thousands of older people, it’s a starkly different story. Christmas can be the loneliest time of the year—a day without family, friends, or even a conversation.

Mary, one of the older people we support, shared her story:

"I have no close relatives or friends who will be around for Christmas day. But at least by attending this social group, I’ll be able to enjoy a Christmas dinner and have a laugh and fun. Last year, my meal on Christmas Day was fish and chips because that was all I had in the freezer."

Ian, who has a Befriender tells us:

"It is hard when you go from being someone who is sociable and outgoing to lacking the confidence to leave the house. I feel much more myself since Paul's visits. We both laugh a lot, chat about current affairs and past travels and even pop out for a cuppa sometimes. It is great - we both get such a lot out of the friendship."
