'I adore my walkers!'
Janet has been a volunteer walking leader for the Montrose / Silkstream walking group for nearly a year and looks forward to it every week!
We have between 6-12 regular walkers , one week however we enjoyed walking with 18, The majority of walkers are women but we do have a couple of men join us .
I adore my walkers, all with different lives, histories, families and views!
They are all happy to share their ups and downs both now and from the past . Having grown up in the area I can authentically reminisce with the walkers, some who do so fondly while others miss Burnt Oak as it was.
We use the Unitas building for refreshments after the walk and my volunteering colleague Lucy and I make and serve tea and coffee. It was lovely to hear a walker say 'It's so nice to enjoy a cup of tea I haven't had to make myself!'
This walking group is my first time volunteering for Age UK Barnet and I can honestly say meeting this group of people make it all worth while and I for one look forward to Wednesday mornings ....rain or shine .
I have been superbly supported by Wendy and Lisa and know I can rely on them for any advice needed
