Free winter energy checks - making homes more efficient!

Age UK Barnet in partnership with Barnet Homes is pleased to be offering free home energy checks to help older Barnet residents make their homes more energy efficient– thanks to funding from Wolseley.
‘Our handyperson team will be visiting people who are finding it difficult to keep their homes warm and will offer advice on saving energy and retaining heat, as well as fitting free energy-saving equipment such as draft excluders and reflective radiator panels,’ says Age UK Barnet chief executive Helen Newman.
‘As we get older, it takes us longer to warm up and exposure to cold weather can make you more vulnerable to health problems such as heart attacks or strokes, as well as worsening conditions such as arthritis, asthma and influenza. The government recommends that people over the age of 65 heat their homes to at least 18C. However, the rising cost of fuel means this is often difficult for those on a low income.’
‘We hope that these measures, with help from Wolseley, will go a long way towards helping people over 65 in Barnet stay warm and well during winter.’
Rob Eastwood, Wolesley’s National Development Manager – Social Housing, says: “Wolseley, the UK’s largest trade specialist in heating, bathroom and plumbing supplies, are extremely conscious of the current impact of rising energy costs, and the obligation of social housing landlords to help their most vulnerable tenants. Wolseley is pleased to be partnering with Barnet Homes and Age UK Barnet on this energy efficiency project, and have a common belief that supporting people ensures strength and longevity of our local communities.’
