Discrimination and rights

Find out your rights and how you are protected from discrimination.

  • Ageism

Ageism is discrimination or unfair treatment based on a person’s age. It’s important that ageism is tackled to make sure that nobody loses out because of their age.
  • Human rights

Human rights are basic rights that belong to all of us simply because we are human. They embody key values in our society such as fairness, dignity, equality and respect.
  • The Equality Act

The Equality Act protects you from discrimination or unfair treatment on the basis of certain personal characteristics, such as age.
  • Your rights at work

As we spend so much of our time at work, it's important that we know our employment rights.
  • EU citizens and settled status after Brexit

If you are living in the UK but you were originally from a country in the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland, you must apply to stay in the UK following Brexit.
  • Help for Ukrainian nationals in the UK

If you're a Ukrainian national or supporting a Ukrainian national in the UK it's important to know what support is available and what rights you have.

Befriending services

We combat loneliness through our befriending services, where a volunteer befriender provides companionship to an older person.
